600 Russian athletes have entered the list of candidates for the national team that will represent the country at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2022. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.

“Now the final stage of preparation for the Olympics is underway. In January 2022, a team will be determined that will represent Russia at the Beijing Olympics. The expanded staff includes about 600 people. I am sure these are the best athletes who will set new world records and bring the country dozens of gold medals, ”said Dmitry Chernyshenko.

Dmitry Chernyshenko added that according to the results of the qualifying competitions, Russian athletes have already received 218 of the 261 maximum possible quotas for the Olympic Winter Games. The selection is now ongoing and will end by the end of the 2021/2022 season. Russia has chances to win more quotas in bobsleigh, skeleton, speed skating, short track and luge sports, to get licenses in biathlon, freestyle, ski jumping and alpine skiing.

“The men’s and women’s ice hockey and curling teams, as well as our figure skaters, have secured Olympic tickets. The latter are the only ones from all the participating countries to receive the maximum quota for all types of the Olympic program. Also, our skiers will have the maximum allowed quota in Beijing, ”said the Deputy Prime Minister.

The Deputy Prime Minister also noted the readiness of the training bases that will be used to train participants in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games. Sports facilities are located in the Krasnoyarsk, Khabarovsk, Krasnodar and Perm regions, as well as in the Irkutsk, Chelyabinsk, Novosibirsk, Moscow and Yaroslavl regions.

“Nine sports bases where our Olympians will train are completely ready. Their infrastructure has already been tested more than once during trainings and competitions at Russian and international levels. Athletes will feel comfortable to focus on improving their professional skills, ”added Dmitry Chernyshenko.

One of the goals of the state program “Development of physical culture and sports” is the entry of the national Olympic team into the top three in the overall standings. For this, a comprehensive training of athletes in winter disciplines is being carried out. 14 target complex programs have been formed, which include areas of training and key indicators for each sport.

“The achievements of Russian athletes in the international arena in the current Olympic cycle give us hope for the successful performance of the national team at the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing 2022. We will be rooting for them so that in Beijing they will demonstrate the highest level of training, ”said the Deputy Prime Minister.

Recall that in 2018 at the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, the national team, playing under a neutral flag, took 13th overall team place with 2 gold, 6 silver and 9 bronze medals.
