On October 20, 2021, by order of the Director of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, Colonel of the Internal Service Vasily Mikhailenko was appointed head of the Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Jewish Autonomous Region. In the videoconference mode, Deputy Director of the Federal Service for the Execution of Punishments, Lieutenant General of the Internal Service, Khabarov Alexander Vladimirovich, introduced the new head of the territorial body of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia. The event was attended by the heads of the region’s law enforcement agencies, the Ombudsman for the Rights of the Child in the Jewish Autonomous Region, the chairman of the Public Council under the Federal Penitentiary Service, the management and personnel of the administration and institutions.

Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Jewish Autonomous Region Ilya Semenov spoke on behalf of the head of the region, who expressed hope for further constructive cooperation in order to ensure the rule of law on the territory of the autonomy.

The head of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Jewish Autonomous Region thanked for the trust and assured those present that he intends to focus his efforts on creating conditions for effective work on the development of the penitentiary system in the region.

At the end of the event, the most distinguished employees were awarded with commendations from the Governor of the Jewish Autonomous Region.

Vasily Mikhailenko has been serving in the penitentiary system since 1999. He served in the Arkhangelsk, Oryol and Yaroslavl regions. Since 2018, he was the first deputy head of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Yaroslavl Region.
