Order of October 20, 2021 No. 2969-r

Work on the construction of the second stage of biological treatment facilities on Golodny Island in the Volgograd Region will begin ahead of schedule – in 2021 instead of the previously planned 2022. More than 189.5 million rubles will be allocated for these purposes by the order of the Government.

The construction of biological treatment facilities on Golodny Island in Volgograd has been carried out since 2019 as part of the federal project “Rehabilitation of the Volga” of the state program “Provision of affordable and comfortable housing and utilities for Russian citizens”.

The first stage is scheduled to be completed in 2021. The opportunity in the same year to direct funds for the construction of the second stage of an important object for the Volgograd region appeared due to the savings that emerged as a result of competitive bidding for the implementation of another project, which is being implemented under the state program.

The commissioning of new facilities on Golodny Island should threefold reduce the volume of untreated wastewater discharged into the Volga.

The basis of the new biological treatment unit is made up of special pools – aeration tanks with secondary sedimentation tanks, a building of disc filters, sludge compactors and an air blowing station. The modern infrastructure, combined with the treatment facilities operating on the island, will create a unified treatment system that is more efficient and environmentally friendly.

The mechanically treated wastewater will flow to the new station. In aeration tanks, they will be mixed with activated sludge – a mixture of microorganisms that have the ability to break down organic pollution. Then the water will be settled, filtered and sent for disinfection to the already operating ultraviolet disinfection station. All technological processes will be automated.
