Dmitry Chernyshenko got acquainted with the progress of the construction of a universal sports hall in Saransk

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that in June, on the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Government allocated more than 850 million rubles to complete the construction of the arena, the construction of which began back in 2010.

The arena is designed for 7.8 thousand people. Now finishing works and commissioning of engineering systems are underway. The readiness of the object is estimated at 90%. By the end of the year, the construction of a universal sports hall should be completed.

“Even the slightest lag behind the work schedule is unacceptable. The head of the republic was instructed to take personal control of the construction site. After completion of construction, regional and all-Russian competitions in basketball, volleyball, hockey, mini-football, tennis, figure skating and boxing will be held here. About 800 pupils of sports schools of the Olympic reserve in rhythmic gymnastics and figure skating are planning to move here. The complex should become the place where new champions will be brought up. Also, the arena should be accessible for mass sports. Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin has set the task that by 2030 70% of the country’s population will regularly go in for sports. The Russian Figure Skating Championship among juniors is planned to be held in the universal hall in January 2022, ”the Deputy Prime Minister said.

Dmitry Chernyshenko and Artyom Zdunov also discussed the development of eSports in the region. Now the republic has its own Federation of Computer Sports. With the support of a commercial company, a number of e-sports tournaments and team camps were held, within the framework of which the infrastructure of the region was tested for holding such large-scale events.

“I would like to note that the region has great prospects for the development of e-sports. Hundreds of young people are showing interest in him and have already taken part in regional eSports tournaments. Saransk has every chance to compete for the title of the city – the organizer of “Futurous – Games of the Future”, which will be held in 2023. The selection will be carried out on a competitive basis, the results will be summed up in May next year. One of the venues for the Games in Saransk could be a universal sports hall, ”stressed Dmitry Chernyshenko.

It is assumed that the Games will be held in 3-4 host cities for 9 days. 1,500 athletes and about 300 thousand spectators will take part in them.

Artyom Zdunov added that if the Games are held in Saransk, then in the capital of Mordovia, a festival of cybersport and new professions “Cyberstart” will also be organized with a combined business and entertainment program. “The universal hall is really a long-awaited object. Many thanks to the President of the country for supporting us in our desire to make it accessible to residents and guests of Mordovia as soon as possible. This is a truly versatile platform. As Dmitry Nikolayevich has already noted, in January we are planning to hold the championship of Russia among juniors in figure skating here, this is a selection for the world championship. Previously, Saransk hosted competitions of this level more than once, but the former site was outdated and did not meet modern requirements. The universal hall is an international format, and we will try to use the facility to the maximum for holding events of the highest level, ”said Artyom Zdunov.
