During a command and staff exercise in the Voronezh Region, military specialists of topographic, geodetic and navigation support of the combined arms army of the Western Military District printed over a thousand military maps in the field.

Having received a drill signal, the personnel of the topographic units made a march to the designated area of the exercise, where they deployed the latest mobile navigation and geodetic systems (PNGK-1) and mobile digital topographic systems (PCTS). With the help of modern technology, military topographers created a 3D model of the terrain, where objects of a combat training situation were applied in real time during the exercise.

New topographic systems are capable of storing, controlling and issuing digital information about the terrain (CIM) to consumers, and promptly create and update geographic information documents in digital and analog form.

Also, top service specialists carried out an analysis and assessment of the terrain in topogeodetic terms, created digital orthophotomaps, printed topographic maps, as well as spatial models of the terrain, for displaying a 3D model on screens for shared use.
