The new laboratory building of the Russian State Archive of Film and Photo Documents in Krasnogorsk is planned to be completed and put into operation in 2022. The order on the allocation of funds for the completion of the facility was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

In a new building with an area of ​​more than 13.6 thousand sq. m will accommodate, among other things, working rooms for restoration, digitization of documents, as well as modern reading rooms, a cinema room with the possibility of broadcasting films on any media available today and, most importantly, with the ability to reproduce old archive tape, exhibition grounds.

Specialized premises equipped according to modern standards will allow storing up to 5 million copies of photographic documents on film carriers, up to 50 thousand copies of photographic documents on paper, 30 thousand copies of video documents and up to 10 petabytes of documents on electronic media.

The Russian State Archive of Film and Photo Documents was founded in 1926. Today it is one of the world’s largest public collections of audiovisual documents.

The archive documents are open to everyone and are actively used in a variety of projects: when creating documentaries and feature films, television programs, museum exhibitions; in documentary and popular science publications, scientific research, numerous domestic and foreign historical and documentary exhibitions.
