The military conductor of the Barnaul missile formation, Lieutenant Maxim Romanov, became the winner of the review competition of military conductors of military bands of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

16 conductors of military bands stationed in the territories of the Western, Southern, Central and Eastern military districts, as well as the Northern Fleet, took part in the competition. They were selected from among several dozen applicants by a special commission, which traveled to the locations of military bands and checked the level of the conductors’ performance skills.

The contestants had to pass three tests: “Instrumentation for a military band”, “Management of a military band in the ranks” and “Methodology for rehearsal work with a military band.” In the first test, the participants had to present in the score a fragment of a given piece of music for the average composition of a brass band. In the second – to lead a military band on the parade ground with musical support for one of the five military rituals. In the third task – to demonstrate the skills of mastering the technique of rehearsal work with a military orchestra while preparing a piece of a concert repertoire selected during the drawing of lots.
