Today, at the main base of the Northern Fleet’s submarine forces – the Hajiyev garrison on the parade ground of the military camp in front of the headquarters of the association, a solemn ceremony of transferring the Battle Banner to the new commander took place.

The commander of the Northern Fleet’s submarine forces for several years, Vice Admiral Arkady Romanov, appointed by the Decree of the President of Russia as Deputy Commander of the Black Sea Fleet, said goodbye to the banner and handed it over to the new commander of the formation, Rear Admiral Anatoly Kovalenko, who previously held the post of chief of staff of the formation.

The event was held under the leadership of the commander of the Northern Fleet, Hero of Russia, Admiral Alexander Moiseyev, who also said goodbye to the banner of the submarine forces of the fleet in 2016, passing it on to his replacement, at that time Rear Admiral Vladimir Grishechkin.

After the handover of the Battle Banner and a short rally, during which the commander of the Northern Fleet congratulated Vice Admiral Arkady Romanov and Rear Admiral Anatoly Kovalenko on their appointments to senior positions, officers of the submarine headquarters, crews of nuclear submarines based in Hajiyev marched in solemn march, welcoming the new commander of the formation and saying goodbye to the outgoing one.

Rear Admiral Dmitry Smirnov was appointed to the post of chief of staff of the submarine forces of the Northern Fleet by the decree of the President of Russia.
