Moscow overtook Madrid, Toronto, Dubai, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Zurich in the annual Global Cities Index 2021, published by an international consulting company Kearney.

Moscow moved up two positions and took 18th place. In total, the ranking includes 156 cities of the world, and topped it by New York, London and Paris.

“Moscow’s position in the top twenty global cities in the world is the result of constant work to improve the business climate in the capital, attract investment, as well as the traditionally high level of development of culture and sports. For example, the capital holds the first place among the world’s cities in terms of the number of museums. The authors of the report also note the successes of cities in the development of the digital economy and advanced technologies, which, in the context of the pandemic, have become the main drivers of positive changes in the positions of cities in the ranking, “said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations.

Vladimir Efimov.

Moscow successfully applied digital services and platforms during the first peak of the pandemic in the spring of 2020, introduced digital public services for citizens and businesses, which continued to be actively used after the main restrictions were lifted.

These indicators are considered by the compilers of the rating as factors of future success in the development of global cities “, – added the Minister of the Moscow Government, head Department of Economic Policy and City Development Kirill Purtov.
