The commander of the combined arms formation of the Central Military District (CVD), Lieutenant General Sergei Ryzhkov, handed over for placement in the Historical Park “Russia is my history” in the city of Novosibirsk, the battle banner of the 68th Königsberg Rifle Regiment of the 70th Rifle World War II.

“The regiment’s battle banner underlines the invaluable contribution of Siberian soldiers to the achievement of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, is a reminder of the heroic pages of the history of our Motherland, its military glory. This historical relic symbolizes the continuous connection of generations, the readiness of the young generation to stand up for the Fatherland, as our grandfathers and great-grandfathers did, ”said Lieutenant General Sergei Ryzhkov, commander of the Central Military District.

Representatives of the regional and city authorities, the military commissar of the Novosibirsk region, representatives of military-patriotic organizations, veterans of the Great Patriotic War and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation also took part in the solemn event of the transfer of the Battle Banner.

As previously reported, eight banners of the renowned regiments and divisions were handed over by the guard of honor of the Moscow garrison to servicemen of the Central Military District for placement in state and municipal museums in Central Russia.

The 68th Königsberg Rifle Regiment was formed on April 15, 1943 on the basis of the 146th Rifle Brigade, which was formed in April 1942 from Siberian volunteers in the city of Novosibirsk. The regiment took an active part in the battles of Yelnya and Smolensk, the liberation of Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, the storming of the fortress city of Konigsberg, the liberation of Poland.

For courage and heroism during the period of hostilities, more than 2,000 soldiers, sergeants and officers of the regiment were awarded orders and medals, 3 servicemen were awarded the great title Hero of the Soviet Union (senior lieutenant Katin, senior sergeant Bazhanov, sergeant Efremov).
