With the first frosts on the territory of the Russian Federation, the surface of reservoirs is covered with thin ice. Such ice is a great danger that can lead to tragedy. Inspectors of the GIMS EMERCOM of Russia regularly patrol water bodies, identifying unauthorized places for the population to enter the ice, talking with citizens about safety rules, urging adults not to leave children unattended.
The first ice is shallow water bodies, and then the coastal waters and shallow bays of lakes. Freezing of water bodies occurs from the coast, and the deepest places may remain not frozen for a long time.
The process of ice formation has already begun on the territory of Yakutia. In the waters of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) GIMS Center inspectors regularly carry out preventive work with the population, aimed at informing citizens about the possible risks when entering the fragile ice.
Inspectors of the GIMS Center remind residents of the district that the feeling of a hard ice surface is now deceptive, strong ice forms at temperatures below 10 ° C when frosty weather is established for at least 10 days.
“During the raid, we witnessed fishermen going out on the ice in forbidden places. Despite the fenced-off areas, ice fishing enthusiasts continue to ignore all safety rules and endanger their lives. In addition, negligent citizens cross the water bodies in a straight line in order to shorten the path, “- said Alexander Orlov, Senior State Inspector for Small Vessels – Head of Yakutsk Branch No. 2 of TsGIMS GU EMERCOM of Russia in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
According to the inspector, children left unattended near water bodies are often involved in emergencies on the ice. Therefore, the rescuers of the Russian Emergencies Ministry regularly remind parents of schoolchildren to stop games on the fragile autumn ice, constantly remind and explain to them the rules of conduct, talk about safety measures and the consequences of violating the advice of adults.
Despite the low temperature in the Kola Arctic, ice on the reservoirs of the Murmansk region has not yet hardened… A large amount of precipitation and a stable snow cover only create the appearance of strong ice. Today, on Lake Semenovskoye, beloved by the townspeople, the thickness of the ice is only 3-4 cm. Such ice does not withstand not only an adult, but also a child.
“The first ice is very dangerous, the safe thickness of the ice cover is considered to be from 10 centimeters or more” – explained Alexander Kulshenko, Senior State Inspector for Small Vessels – Head of the Inspection Department of Murmansk, GIMS Center of the Main Directorate of EMERCOM of Russia in the Murmansk Region.
He also recalled that on the eve of school holidays, all parents need to talk with their children about the prohibition of going out on thin ice, since the safety of children is only in their hands.
