The name of the hero of the Soviet Union, sniper pilot Colonel-General Vitaly Pavlov was assigned to the Mi-26 helicopter of a separate army aviation brigade of the Central Military District, stationed in the Chelyabinsk region,

The ceremony of assigning the name took place on the Day of the formation of the army aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces at a military airfield in the city of Yuzhnouralsk. Also, during the celebrations, the brigade command presented certificates of honor to the most distinguished servicemen, as well as shoulder straps with regular military ranks.

The ceremonial event was attended by representatives of the command and the personnel of the formation, veterans of the Air Force and the youth army. During the ceremony, the rotorcraft, which received its own name, symbolically taxied to the site, standing in a row with the Blue Bird search and rescue vehicle, which is also in service with the Central Military District’s search and rescue squadron.

The decision to assign its own name to the Mi-26 helicopter was made by the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu.

Vitaly Egorovich Pavlov – Soviet and Russian pilot and military leader Hero of the Soviet Union. He performed international duty in Afghanistan (1981-1982) as the commander of a separate mixed aviation regiment, flew 307 sorties with 567 hours of flight time. During the Chechen campaign, he flew 156 combat missions with the rank of general.
