Specialists will have to remove small chips on the bronze monument to Gamzatov, as well as clean up the unevenly distributed patina.

The monument to the poet Rasul Gamzatov will be repaired. The monument is located at: Yauzsky Boulevard, 16/2. It was installed in 2013 in honor of the 90th anniversary of the birth of the writer. Over the past time, under the influence of precipitation and unfavorable environmental conditions, defects in the joints between the plates and an unevenly distributed patina are visible on the bronze surface of the steel – a natural noble coating on the oxidized metal. In addition, the monument was covered with stubborn dirt. Department of Cultural Heritage of Moscowincluded it in the conservation plan. The specialists will have to fix these problems.

“Rasul Gamzatov left a really big mark in literature. Even those who are not familiar with his work, at least once must have heard the famous song “Cranes”, which appeared thanks to the poem by Rasul Gamzatovich. This poet has created an unforgettable image of a warrior, defender of the Motherland, who fell in the battles of the Great Patriotic War. In the next two years, the monument to the poet will be put in order by specialists. Now they are preparing a project for future work, “- said the head of the Moscow City Heritage Site.

The monument was created by a creative team of sculptors, which included Igor Novikov, Shamil Kanaigadzhiev and Alexei Tikhonov. The poet is shown sitting in an armchair mounted on a pedestal with a bas-relief. On it you can see a young man going on the road and leaving his native places. The sculptural composition is complemented by a red granite stele with a carved image of a flock of cranes and lines from the author’s famous poem:

Sometimes it seems to me that the soldiers

From the bloody fields that did not come,

Once upon a time they did not fall into this ground,

And they turned into white cranes …

Rasul Gamzatovich Gamzatov (1923-2003) – poet, prose writer, publicist, public and political figure, translator. At the age of 20, he published a book of poems written in the Avar language. Some of his best-known collections include My Heart in the Mountains and Tall Stars. Many of his works have become lyrics. They were performed by Anna German, Galina Vishnevskaya, Muslim Magomayev, Mark Bernes.

The monuments in the capital are regularly put in order. Restoration of monuments is planned for the coming years aircraft designer Alexander Yakovlev, heroes of the Patriotic War of 1812, statesman Pyotr Stolypin, cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, composer and conductor Alexander Alexandrov, to the writer Mikhail Sholokhovand other outstanding personalities.
