In Zernograd, a commemorative ceremony of naming the Mi-26 “Vyacheslav Pismenny” helicopter and the Mi-8 “Nikolai Maidanov” helicopter took place.
Veterans of the army aviation – Hero of the Soviet Union, Honored Military Pilot of the Russian Federation, Colonel of the Reserve Alexander Railean and Hero of the Russian Federation, Colonel of the Reserve Valentin Padalka were invited to the solemn event.
Also, the holiday was attended by the command of the Air Force and Air Defense Association of the Southern Military District (YuVO), representatives of the administration of the Rostov region and the Zernograd region, relatives and colleagues of the heroes, whose names were given to the aircraft.
The ceremony began with the formation of personnel and the removal of the state flag of the Russian Federation and the battle banner of the formation of the army aviation of the Southern Military District. The participants laid flowers and wreaths at the monument “100 years of Russian aviation”. The right to open the inscriptions with the names “Nikolai Maidanov”, “Vyacheslav Pismenny” was granted to the widow of Nikolai Maidanov – Tatiana and the son of Vyacheslav Pismenny – Vitaly.
At the end of the solemn event, the relatives of the heroes handed over their personal belongings to the museum of the compound, and a concert was given to all those gathered in the House of Officers to commemorate the Day of the Army Aviation.
The tradition of assigning proper names to aircraft dates back to the 20s of the last century. During the Great Patriotic War, the names of prominent Russian commanders and military pilots were put on the aircraft fuselages. In modern conditions, this tradition has been continued.
Nikolai Sainovich Maidanov was born on February 7, 1956 in the Kazakh SSR. Graduated from the Saratov Higher Military Aviation School of Pilots. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of July 29, 1988, for the courage and heroism shown in the performance of military duty, Nikolai Sainovich Maidanov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal on January 29, 2000 while flying as part of the anti-terrorist operations in the Chechen Republic, Colonel Maidanov was mortally wounded and died in the cockpit of a combat vehicle, fighting for the lives of those on board to the last and trying to land a helicopter. In 2000, Nikolai Maidanov was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation (posthumously).
Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Pismenny was born on August 6, 1950 in the Kazakh SSR. Graduated from the Syzran Higher Military Aviation School of Pilots. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 5, 1986, Lieutenant Colonel Pismenny Vyacheslav Mikhailovich was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal for his courage, courage and heroism in providing international assistance to the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan. Honored Pilot of the Russian Federation. Deputy Commander – Chief of Staff of the Army Aviation of the Ground Forces, Lieutenant General of Aviation V. M. Pismenny died on January 31, 2004.
