Graduates of the Chelyabinsk branch of the Air Force Academy took part in the unveiling of sculptures dedicated to the first graduates of the School of Navigators. The event took place on the recently opened “Alley of Heroes” on the territory of the educational institution.

During the solemn ceremony, officers-graduates and guests of the school opened the pedestals of navigators of the Heroes of the Soviet Union, graduates of the educational institution Dmitry Volkov and Alexei Gashkov A.

“Navigators from the Urals during the Great Patriotic War showed massive heroism, they covered the battle banners of their regiments with unfading glory. 26 graduates became Heroes of the Soviet Union and one graduate, for heroism during the war, was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation. Continuing the traditions of the military generation, graduates of ChVVAKUSH are showing heroism and courage in modern times, ”Major General Igor Shvedov, head of the Chelyabinsk branch of the Air Force Academy, addressed the guests at the ceremony.

The “Alley of Heroes” dedicated to 35 Heroes of the Soviet Union and Russia and one Hero of Socialist Labor was opened in the Chelyabinsk branch of the Military Educational Scientific Center of the Air Force “Air Force Academy named after Professor N.Ye. Zhukovsky and Yu.A. Gagarin “on October 1, 2021, on the day of the 85th anniversary of the founding of a military educational institution.

In total, the “Alley of Heroes” will commemorate the memory of 36 alumni-heroes, including 33 navigators, an air radio operator, an aircraft pilot and a record holder of Soviet oil production. The monuments will be installed in chronological order.
