Four embankments of the Balchug Islands – Sofiyskaya, Raushskaya, Sadovnicheskaya, Kosmodamianskaya, received a new look this year.

Over the past 10 years, 36 embankments with a total length of 64.5 kilometers have been put in order in the capital. Routes along the banks of the Moskva River are becoming more beautiful and more comfortable: pedestrian zones, observation decks, bike paths, benches, new trees and shrubs appear.

“A whole program of putting in order the coastal zone of the Moscow River and reservoirs is currently operating in the city, and our task is to fully implement it in the next four years,” said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for improvement and housing and communal services.

Peter Biryukov.

The very first to put in order the Crimean embankment, it became a continuation of the Pushkinskaya, Andreevskaya and Vorobyovskaya embankments. A walking route has appeared from Vorobyovy Gory and Gorky Park to the spit of Bolotny Island with a length of about 12 kilometers.

A part of the Yakimanskaya embankment was made completely pedestrian – from its intersection with the 3rd Golutvinsky lane to Bolshaya Yakimanka street. This section has become an organic continuation of the Krymskaya embankment, which is completely closed to transport.

The width of the pedestrian zone of the Yakimanskaya embankment is more than 15 meters. And along the sidewalks from Patriarshy to Maly Kamenny Bridge, you can comfortably walk towards Balchug, Bolshaya Polyanka or along the Vodootvodny Canal.

In addition to Yakimanskaya, Krasnopresnenskaya, Rostovskaya, Smolenskaya, Savvinskaya, Bolotnaya, Kotelnicheskaya, Goncharnaya, Luzhnetskaya, Prechistenskaya, Moskvoretskaya and Andreevskaya embankments were put in order.

A 19-kilometer pedestrian route from Taganka to Moscow City has been created in the historical part of the city. In 2019, the Ovchinnikovskaya and Ozerkovskaya embankments were landscaped. Outside the center, the embankment in Kapotnya was transformed in the same year. A park appeared there on the banks of the Moskva River, associated with the park of the 850th anniversary of Moscow.

This year, four embankments of the Balchug Island have been improved. They got a new lookSofiyskaya, Raushskaya, Sadovnicheskaya, Kosmodamianskaya embankments, as well as adjacent Sadovnicheskaya streets, 1st and 2nd Raushsky, Faleevsky, Komissariatsky and Sadovnichesky lanes. Until late autumn, almost 600 large trees and more than 21 thousand shrubs will be planted on them.

In the coming years, it is planned to improve all the embankments in the capital. The coastline of the Moskva River will turn into an uninterrupted comfortable walking route.
