MIL OSI Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

Question: You said that you were at a dinner with US President George Biden yesterday. Did you manage to discuss something? Perhaps his new meeting with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin? If so, when is it planned?

Foreign Minister Lavrov: Not that I had dinner with the President of the United States. Yesterday there was a dinner for all the leaders of the delegations at the G20 summit, during which we had a short but useful conversation with President J. Biden. He conveyed greetings to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and emphasized the focus on further contacts. We also briefly discussed how these contacts can be built in the foreseeable future. I have already conveyed this message to President Vladimir Putin. I think this will be useful for further building our schedules.

Question: Do we understand correctly that in the current conditions Russia does not see any sense in the summit of the leaders of the Normandy Four? Even Europeans have called Russia “participants in the conflict.” We disagree with this.

Foreign Minister Lavrov: We always see the meaning not in some event, but in its content. We conveyed to our colleagues our proposals on how to thoroughly prepare the next contact in the “Normandy format” – no matter at what level. We expect a reaction from them. They say that it is necessary to meet as soon as possible, but have not yet conveyed their vision of the expected results to us.
