In the temple of the city of Kostroma, the Epiphany-Anastasiin Cathedral, a solemn ceremony was held with the rite of consecration of the icon of the holy blessed prince Andrei Bogolyubsky – the heavenly patron of the radiation, chemical and biological defense troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
The service was attended by the Chief of the NBC Defense Troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, as well as the personnel of the Military Academy of NBC Defense named after Marshal of the Soviet Union S.K. Tymoshenko.
The rite of consecration was performed by Archpriest Oleg Novikov, head of the Department for Interaction with the Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies of the Kostroma Diocese, who congratulated the leadership of the NBC Defense Troops and the personnel of the Military Academy, wishing them all the help of God in their military service.
Andrei Bogolyubsky was named the heavenly patron of warriors-chemists with the blessing of His Holiness Kirill, His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia.
This is the oldest tradition of the Russian army – to have before its gaze the image of the heavenly patron, both in peacetime and during the performance of combat and other tasks in accordance with the mission.
The author of the icon is the Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, icon painter Mikhail Leontiev, the author of the main icon of the Main Church of the RF Armed Forces with the image of the Savior Not Made by Hands.
The icon will be placed in the church of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious at the Kostroma Military Academy of the RCB Defense Troops.
Today the academy, which includes the temple, is the center of educational, spiritual and patriotic education not only for cadets, students of the academy, but also for the young population of the city and region. Work is carried out with the younger generation, schoolchildren, students of secondary special, higher educational institutions, recruits in many areas of the educational process.
At the end of the ceremony, the servicemen venerated the image of their heavenly patron.
