On November 9, a press conference was held by Rinat Yenikeev, Director of the Department for Supervision and Preventive Work of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, on topical issues of fire safety.

Measures to reduce the number of fires in the residential sector were discussed online on the basis of the Russia Segodnya International News Agency.

“Traditionally, in the autumn-winter period, the risks of fires in housing increase, – noted R. Enikeev. – At this time, as a rule, the number of fires in buildings and structures doubles, death – 2.5 times. “

At the same time, 92% of the deaths of people in fires occur in the residential sector. In particular, in the multi-apartment housing stock, this figure does not exceed 38%, the rest of the tragic cases occur in private houses.

The peak of deaths in fires is recorded on weekends and holidays and, according to statistics, mainly at night. In most cases, fires in homes occur due to careless handling of fire in a state of alcoholic intoxication. Leaving children unattended is another risk factor. Families with low social status deserve special attention. A number of targeted programs and a set of measures in the regions are aimed at increasing the fire safety of their homes. One of the most effective measures today is the installation of fire detectors. The portable device is able to warn about a fire even with a small amount of smoke.

As R. Yenikeyev noted, the state fire control bodies are not entitled to conduct surveys and inspections of residential premises. It is the responsibility of every citizen to monitor the safety of their homes. To do this, first of all, it is worth contacting professionals once a year to check the health of the electricians in the house and apartment, not to use electrical appliances that work intermittently or are made in a homemade way.

Another fire safety rule prohibits storing flammable and flammable substances and materials on balconies and stairwells, and using open fire.
