Servicemen of the Caspian Flotilla (CFL) took part in the writing of the Geographical Dictation as part of a large-scale international educational campaign held by the Russian Geographical Society.

More than 20 sites were organized for dictation in the Makhachkala and Astrakhan garrisons. The action was held not only at special sites and auditoriums, but also in the mess rooms of the missile ships Tatarstan and Dagestan, small missile and artillery ships Grad Sviyazhsk, Uglich, Veliky Ustyug, Makhachkala and “Astrakhan”.

The dictation consisted of two parts, differing in complexity. The first part (10 questions) of the basic level (“geographical educational program”) is based on well-known facts from geography, the second part (30 questions) requires the use of imaginative thinking, systems logic and erudition. Each question was allotted from one to three minutes. The time of the assignment and the questions were shown on the screen in the form of slides with text and illustrations. The total duration of the dictation was 45 minutes.

More than 200 officers, warrant officers and about 500 sailors of the KFL surface ships tested their knowledge of geography. In total, more than 2 thousand people wrote the dictation, in particular, officers, warrant officers, sergeants, privates of contract service, as well as conscripts. Civilian personnel of the flotilla, family members of military personnel, representatives of the All-Russian military-patriotic public movement “Yunarmiya” also tested their knowledge in the field of geography.

Geographical dictation has been conducted by the Russian Geographical Society at the initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin annually since 2015. In 2017, the promotion became international. Last year, the dictation was written in more than 100 countries of the world, and over six years more than a million people took part in the project.
