The new domestic feature film about the war in Syria “Sky” was able to show the courage and dedication of Russian military pilots. This was announced today at the presentation of the film by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

“The main thing that we managed to show is the courage and dedication of our military pilots, our military personnel, today’s officers, and not only officers of the Russian army,” Shoigu said.

According to him, the consultants for this film were specialists from both the Aerospace Forces and the Special Operations Forces, and they all noted the high reliability of the picture.

“This is a very, very worthy job, work based on real events,” the minister stressed.

At the moment, “Sky” is a one-of-a-kind painting detailing the events in Syria on such a scale.

The film will be released on November 18. This is the first feature film about the Russian counter-terrorist military operation in Syria, filmed with the support of the Russian Ministry of Defense. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu instructed to include this film in the list of mandatory viewing in the armed forces.

The picture is based on real events in Syria, when a Russian Su-24 was shot down by a Turkish fighter during a combat mission. This happened on November 24, 2015. The crew – Oleg Peshkov and Konstantin Murakhtin – managed to eject. Navigator Murakhtin was rescued, and Peshkov, who was descending with a parachute, was shot in the air by the militants. Later, all the terrorists who participated in this shooting were destroyed, and the deceased pilot was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Russia. Murakhtin was awarded the Order of Courage.
