The Russian Defense Ministry hosted a press screening of the feature film “Sky” about the feat of pilot Oleg Peshkov, who died while performing a combat mission in Syria.

After the screening, a press conference took place, at which the filmmakers, shot by the TriX Media film company together with the Russian Ministry of Defense with the participation of the Russia 1 channel, spoke about the filming process, preparation for work, and meetings with real participants in those events.

The film will be released on November 18. This is the first feature film about the Russian counter-terrorist military operation in Syria, filmed with the support of the Russian Ministry of Defense. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu instructed to include this film in the list of mandatory viewing in the Russian Armed Forces.

The picture is based on real events in Syria, when a Russian Su-24 was shot down by a Turkish fighter during a combat mission. This happened on November 24, 2015. The crew – Oleg Peshkov and Konstantin Murakhtin – managed to eject. The navigator Murakhtin was rescued, and the militants shot Peshkov, who was descending with a parachute, while still in the air. Later, all the terrorists who participated in this shooting were destroyed, and the deceased pilot was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Russia. Murakhtin was awarded the Order of Courage.

At the center of the film history are two main characters – Lieutenant Colonel Oleg Soshnikov and Captain Konstantin Muravyov.

Igor Kopylov was the director, scriptwriter and one of the producers. The film is played by Igor Petrenko, Maria Mironova, Ivan Batarev, Sergei Gubanov, Ilya Noskov, Nikolai Kozak and other artists.

Major Konstantin Murakhtin became the main consultant on the set, and the leading actors trained for several months in the active training camp for the Special Operations Forces along with the military.
