In St. Petersburg, celebrations were held to mark the 79th anniversary of the formation of the Rechitsa-Brandenburg Guards Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment of the Leningrad Army of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Western Military District.

During the solemn events in the regiment’s management, the commanding officers of the formation congratulated the personnel on the anniversary of the formation. An award ceremony for the most distinguished servicemen was held in the building of the officers’ club, as well as a festive concert.

The regiment originates in 1942 with the formation in the city of Efremov of the Tula region as part of the troops of the Bryansk front of the 16th anti-aircraft artillery division of the Reserve of the Main Command of the Armed Forces of the USSR. By order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Marshal of the Soviet Union Stalin, the anti-aircraft artillery division was named “Rechitsa” for excellent military operations in the battles to capture the city of Rechitsa, and “Brandenburg” for the success in the invasion of Brandenburg province.

Currently, the anti-aircraft missile regiment is on constant combat duty to protect state borders in the airspace of the Russian Federation. The regiment is armed with modern anti-aircraft missile systems S-400 “Triumph” and anti-aircraft missile-gun systems “Pantsir-S1”.
