Design solution. Department of Transport and Development of Road and Transport Infrastructure of the City of Moscow

The city has announced a competition to identify a contractor who will organize regular river transport for 15 years. He will have to follow the strict requirements of the Moscow Government.

The supply and assembly of domestically produced electric vessels, berths, as well as their full service for 15 years and the organization of regular passenger transportation along the Moskva River – these are the main responsibilities of the future single contractor, who will have to ensure high-quality and uninterrupted operation of the new river transport in the capital. He will be selected based on the results of the competition, which was announced on November 17. Told about it Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.

The contractor will be obliged to comply with the strict requirements of the Moscow Government. Among them – service of vessels 24 hours a day and seven days a week, high technical readiness, creation of a comfortable and modern berthing infrastructure with electric charging stations, supply of only electric vessels of exclusively Russian production.

“Thanks to the support of the Mayor of Moscow, in 2022 we will gradually open traffic on two river routes and return the beloved water transport to Muscovites. The contractor organizes the work on the routes according to the life cycle contract to ensure regular river transport. The contract includes not only the supply and assembly of ships and berths, but also their round-the-clock maintenance, repair, charging and cleaning of ships, recruiting captains and their salaries. This will give us confidence that the manufacturer fully understands its responsibility and will make reliable transport for the daily transportation of Muscovites and guests of the city, ”said Maxim Liksutov.

In the summer of 2022, nine river trams will operate the new water routes. The passenger fleet will be fully completed by 2024. It will include 21 ships. A total of 23 new-type berths will be opened on two routes (six of them with charging stations) and two fleet bases for night accommodation or repair of trams – in Mnevniki and Nagatinsky Zaton. All vessels will be ice class. Thus, the world’s first electric water transport, which serves passengers all year round, will start operating in Moscow.

“We want to create comfortable, predictable and safe transportation. Thanks to him, as early as next year, approximately 1.5 million people will be able to move around Moscow much faster, ”said Maxim Liksutov.

What will be the new trams and routes

In 2022, ships will start operating on two regular river routes: Fili – Kievsky Vokzal (12.5 kilometers long) and Pechatniki – Avtozavodsky Most (eight kilometers long). The main passengers will be residents of coastal areas – public transport will be available for them within walking distance, which will reduce travel time.

For example, the journey from Fili Park to the Verkhniye Mnevniki pier by bus takes 65 minutes, and by water it takes only 13.5 minutes. That is, you can get there by river tram five times faster. It will take just three minutes to get from Pechatniki to Kolomenskaya embankment (from one bank to the other) thanks to a river tram. At the same time, it will take more than an hour to get by bus, and at least 35 minutes by car.

Every day 15-16 thousand passengers will be able to use each route. River trams will become one of the important elements of the capital’s transport and a convenient alternative to a private car. It will be possible to pay for the fare with a Troika, a bank card or using a biometric system. Holders of common travel tickets for 90 or 365 days will be able to travel by water tram at no additional cost.

The names of the vessels will coincide with the names of the Moscow rivers – such a concept was proposed by the future passengers of river transport a year ago. For the first electric ship, Muscovites have already chosen the name “Titmouse”.

Future river vessels are 100 percent environmentally friendly and operate without harmful emissions. The trams will be spacious: about 22 meters long, each with up to 50 seats, including for passengers with limited mobility. In saloons with panoramic windows and Wi-Fi, information screens and USB connectors will be installed, there will be places for scooters and bicycles, as well as comfortable seats and tables for working with a laptop.

Return of the legend

For the first time, river transport appeared in Moscow in 1923 and has been in demand among passengers for decades. However, in 2006, regular water transport stopped working – only tourist walking routes remained.

The plans of the Moscow Government are to revive the river city transport after a long break. For this, in 2018, together with the National Research University Higher School of Economics, analytical work was carried out, as a result of which several promising urban river transport routes were identified. And in 2020, after a grandiose restoration, the Northern River Station was opened.

Now the reconstruction of the Southern River Station is underway, which has not been used for its intended purpose for almost 25 years. After opening, it will again become one of the most important stops for regular and cruise river trams in Moscow.
