The meeting discussed the development of the energy potential of the republic with the participation of Russian companies in the fuel and energy sector and cooperation in the transport and logistics sector.
As part of a working trip to Kazakhstan, Deputy Prime Ministers of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak and Alexey Overchuk met with the Head of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
During the meeting, the prospects for strengthening trade and economic relations between the countries within the EAEU, as well as in the fuel and energy complex, including in terms of the development of green energy, peaceful atom and hydrogen, were discussed. “A lot of work is underway in Russia to implement the green course. A strategy for low-carbon economic development until 2050 has been prepared. In particular, it notes the important role of nuclear energy as a low-carbon energy source. Green financing instruments are being developed, ”Alexander Novak noted during the meeting.
They also discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the transport and logistics sector and the prospects for mutual recognition of vaccination passports.
During his visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Alexander Novak took part in a ceremonial meeting of the members of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the signing of the shareholder agreement. During the event, Alexander Novak conveyed congratulations from President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin.
Alexander Novak noted the uniqueness and key linking importance of the existing oil pipeline for Russian-Kazakh relations. “This is a unique joint project of Russia and Kazakhstan with the participation of the world’s leading energy companies. During its work, it has proven its strategic relevance and economic efficiency. Today it is not only the shortest, but also the most reliable route for transporting Caspian oil to world markets. For the Russian Federation, this project is of key importance in terms of building up its energy and transport potential. For Kazakhstan, it has become one of the most important pillars for the development of the national economy, the optimal export route for entering the world energy markets, ”the Deputy Prime Minister added.
In total, over a quarter of a century, more than 750 million tons of oil have been supplied to world markets through the Tengiz-Novorossiysk oil pipeline system, and in the near future the throughput of the oil pipeline will exceed 80 million tons per year. “The consortium’s activities meet the highest environmental standards. In particular, it meets the tasks of consistent decarbonization of the economy, ”added Alexander Novak.
Alexey Overchuk emphasized the dynamic development of trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan. “We see our task in opening new areas of cooperation. We consider energy as promising industries, including renewable energy sources, mining, information and communication technologies, transport infrastructure, ”the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted regional ties as a key element of economic cooperation between the countries. “Interregional and cross-border trade accounts for about 70% of the turnover. Among the main partners are Tatarstan, the Astrakhan region, Moscow and St. Petersburg, ”said Alexey Overchuk.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that in 2021, under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the EAEU, important decisions were made that contribute to the deepening of Eurasian integration.
In matters of cooperation in the transport and logistics sphere, the Russian side noted the implementation of the project for the construction of the Europe-Western China transport route and the Meridian highway. “In close contact with our Kazakh colleagues, we are implementing a large-scale project for the construction of a transport route Europe – Western China. The parameters of the construction of the “Meridian” highway are considered. It is important to carry out all measures to increase the throughput and reduce the time of transportation of goods across the territory of our countries, ”stressed Oleksiy Overchuk.
He also confirmed his interest in expanding contacts in the field of education and youth policy. “We are ready to respond as a matter of priority to your needs in the training of pedagogical staff of Russianists, to facilitate the transfer of modern teaching methods and technologies,” said Oleksiy Overchuk.
