Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko congratulated university staff on their first professional holiday – Higher School Teacher’s Day.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the holiday was established this year by order of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. It will be celebrated annually on November 19 – the birthday of the great Russian scientist, founder of Moscow State University, Mikhail Lomonosov.

“Today, the number of the teaching staff of Russian universities includes over 253 thousand people, who teach more than 4 million students. Almost half of the teachers have more than 20 years of experience in higher education. About 165 thousand have academic degrees of doctors and candidates of sciences. It is symbolic that this holiday was established in the year declared by the President as the Year of Science and Technology. University professors are at the forefront of Russian and world science, train highly qualified personnel for all sectors of the economy. It is they who, by their personal example, inspire and awaken the love of research in young people. They teach how to ask questions correctly and find answers, help implement startups and make scientific discoveries, ”said Dmitry Chernyshenko.

“I hope that this holiday will acquire good and interesting traditions in the future. I wish all teachers health, long life, respect and recognition, new scientific achievements. And, of course, inquisitive and grateful students, determined to make great discoveries, ”added the Deputy Prime Minister.
