During the 2021 academic year, the crews of the Baltic Fleet (BF) ships and coastal missile units successfully carried out dozens of anti-ship and anti-aircraft missile launches.

During the exercise, the warships of the fleet carried out about 350 firing with the use of artillery and missile weapons at various types of targets simulating air attack weapons, warships and enemy coastal facilities.

In the 2021 academic year, artillery units of the army corps of the Baltic Fleet completed more than 3,500 fire missions using barrel artillery, mortars and multiple launch rocket systems, and also worked out combat launches of anti-tank guided missiles – about half of them at night. Artillery, rocket and anti-tank units of the coastal forces of the fleet took part in more than 300 tactical exercises with live fire and conducted about 100 fire control drills for divisions.

This year, artillerymen and missilemen of the Baltic Fleet have also carried out a series of landmark shooting exercises in the northern and southern regions of Russia.

In August, the crew of the small missile ship (MRK) “Sovetsk” made an exit to the sea ranges of the Northern Fleet, where they fired a sea-based cruise missile “Caliber” at a coastal target located at the Chizha training range. According to the results obtained from the means of objective control, the rocket successfully hit the coastal target at a distance of over 1000 km.

In September of this year, the crew of the coastal missile complex (DBK) “Bastion” of the Baltic Fleet on the island of Alexandra Land (Franz Josef Land archipelago) fired a cruise missile at a target in the Barents Sea. Inspection of the target after firing confirmed the successful defeat of the target.

In October of this year, the calculations of the anti-aircraft missile regiment of the army corps of the Baltic Fleet, stationed in Kaliningrad, at the Kapustin Yar training ground (Astrakhan region), were rated excellent in combat firing from the Tor-M2 missile systems. In the course of combat work, the crews of the complexes destroyed several high-speed maneuvering targets of the “Saman” type launched from different directions and flying at minimum and maximum altitudes.

The Day of Rocket Forces and Artillery was established by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation (May 31, 2006) and is celebrated on November 19 – the day of the start of the Soviet offensive during the Battle of Stalingrad. On this day in 1942, the artillery inflicted heavy losses on the enemy and provided the Soviet troops with a successful start of the counteroffensive, which ended with the encirclement and defeat of the German troops.

In the Russian Navy, it is celebrated as the Day of the Rocketman-Artilleryman (established by the order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy dated July 15, 1996 “On the introduction of annual holidays and professional days in the specialty”).
