In the Leningrad Region, solemn events took place on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the formation of the Kiev-Lodz Guards Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment of the Leningrad Army Air Force and Air Defense of the Western Military District.

During the ceremonial events in the regiment management, the command of the formation congratulated the personnel on the anniversary of the formation. An award ceremony for the most distinguished servicemen was held in the building of the officers’ club, as well as a festive concert.

The regiment’s heroic path began in 1942, when the 8th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Division was formed by order of Marshal of Artillery Voronov. Until the end of the war, she took part in the largest battles of the Great Patriotic War, including the Kursk, Kiev, Vislenskaya, Berlin operations. After the war, the division became part of the group of Soviet forces in Germany. In 1961, after the transformation and rearmament to modern anti-aircraft missile systems for those times, the regiment became part of the Leningrad Air Defense Association

Currently, an anti-aircraft missile regiment is deployed within the borders of the Western Military District and is on constant combat duty to protect state borders in the airspace of the Russian Federation. The modern anti-aircraft missile systems S-400 “Triumph” and anti-aircraft missile-gun systems “Pantsir-S1” are still in service.
