Many patriotic events in Moscow are supported by volunteers. They help both organizers and participants.

One of the most ambitious areas of the volunteer movement in the capital is patriotic volunteering. This year alone, over 900 Muscovites have devoted about 15.5 thousand hours to selfless assistance. They took part in such events as “Congratulate the Veteran”, “Memory Line”, “Red Carnation”, the Day of the State Flag of the Russian Federation and many others, she said Natalia Sergunina, Deputy Mayor of Moscow.

“Volunteers make an invaluable contribution by helping to organize important events for the city at the highest level. Participation in patriotic programs opens up great opportunities for everyone. For example, volunteers can talk to veterans and learn more about our history, find like-minded people and new friends, gain useful skills and experience, “said Natalya Sergunina.

From May 3 to May 9, more than 200 volunteers joined the headquarters for the meeting of veterans arriving in the capital to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. Volunteers met them at railway stations and airports, accompanied them to their places of residence, and after the end of the celebrations helped them to get back.

About 100 Muscovites became fire keepers at the “Memory Line” action, which took place on the Crimean embankment on June 21. Volunteers lit and supported the burning of 1,418 candles during the day – according to the number of days of the Great Patriotic War.

About 300 volunteers took part in the XIV International Military Music Festival “Spasskaya Tower” on Red Square. They, in particular, coordinated the work of the press center and helped the guests of the festival to take seats in the stands.

Volunteer team leaders

Ekaterina Kuznetsova is studying to be an ambulance paramedic, and she joined the volunteer movement in 2019, becoming one of the guardians of Zaryadye Park. She told the guests how to get to the ticket offices, where the entrance to the ice cave is, and much more. In the same year, as a volunteer, she took part in the Immortal Regiment march.

“I was a team leader. This is the same volunteer, just with a lot of experience, who can always advise, help, and encourage. At the action, we distributed water to the participants. Here, it is important not only to clearly fulfill their functions, but also to support everyone who came: to suggest something to someone, to bring something, and so on, ”she recalls.

For two years in a row, the girl participated in the “Memory Line” action, devoting a total of 133 hours to her. In 2021, she helped the headquarters for the meeting of veterans for 103 hours. According to Ekaterina, patriotic volunteering allows you not only to help, but also to learn a lot. For volunteers, they conduct special thematic training – they give lectures, show films about the war, so that each volunteer is imbued with what he is doing.

Volunteer Aleksey Miryushchenko spent almost 300 hours this year in volunteer shifts.

“For five years now my wife and I have been both volunteers and team leaders. We are interested in all the events, but the most memorable one is the “Memory Line”. Such actions allow us not to forget the feat of millions of people who gave their lives for our peaceful future, ”notes Alexey.

Georgy Baklanov, a student of the National Research Technological University “MISiS”, actively participates in volunteer actions.

“I wanted to be involved in the Victory Day, but here I also had a unique opportunity to meet veterans and communicate with them. Our main task was to provide them with the most comfortable stay in Moscow, to give attention and care, ”said Georgy.

Anyone can become a volunteer at a city event or take part in a project of the Mosvolonter resource center. To do this, you need to go through authorization on the website, and then register for a specific promotion. Information about current events can be found in the “Events” section.
