On November 22, Moscow hosted the ninth meeting of the Russian-Pakistani Working Group on Countering International Terrorism and Other Security Challenges with the participation of representatives of the competent departments of both states, co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation O. V. Syromolotov and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan N. Munira.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views and discussed a wide range of issues of international cooperation in the fight against terrorism and extremism, including existing and emerging threats to international and regional peace and security.

Both sides recognized and praised the efforts undertaken by Russia and Pakistan in the fight against international terrorism, stressed the need to build up joint work of the two countries in order to counter security challenges and reaffirmed their commitments to combat the spread of terrorist propaganda in the information space, in particular on the Internet. , and the phenomenon of foreign terrorist fighters. They emphasized that the spread of terrorist ideology and the emergence of new forms of terrorism pose a serious threat. The parties also confirmed their intentions to continue the dialogue on the issues of combating the financing of terrorism.

As part of the current strategic dialogue, Russia and Pakistan have exchanged assessments of global and regional terrorist threats (in particular, in Afghanistan, the region of the Middle East and North Africa, Central and South Asia).

An agreement was reached on the further expansion of cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in countering international terrorism and other security challenges. The sides also spoke in favor of continuing joint work on issues of mutual interest at key international platforms such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The next meeting of the Working Group is planned to be held in 2022.
