An exercise was conducted with the servicemen of the special-purpose detachment for combating submarine sabotage forces and means (PDSS) of the main base of the Northern Fleet, an exercise to protect the basing point of large surface ships.

The purpose of the exercise is to maintain the training of servicemen and work out tactics to combat underwater saboteurs. The combat training event was held in a bilateral format. Some of the detachment’s fighters played the role of conditional saboteurs who tried to penetrate the protected water area with the aim of mining the ships standing at the berths.

At the first stage of the exercise, the servicemen of the anti-PDSS detachment prevented a breakthrough to the ships of a high-speed intruder boat, which could be mined and used by a conditional enemy to commit sabotage, as well as to divert attention from the actions of underwater saboteurs. The intruder boat and its crew were captured and rendered harmless.

At the second stage of the exercise, the element of the destruction of underwater saboteurs in the water area and on the coast was worked out, as well as anti-sabotage inspection of the underwater part of the ship hulls, the search for a conventional mine and its destruction.

In the course of practical actions, the means of simulating explosions and blank cartridges were used. Fighting swimmers used a special weapon for underwater shooting – APS submachine guns.

The conducted exercise demonstrated the readiness of the personnel of the special purpose detachment to combat the PDSS to carry out combat duty to protect the water area of the main base of the Northern Fleet – Severomorsk.
