On November 24, under the chairmanship of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, the XXXVII meeting of the Council of Heads of Subjects of the Russian Federation under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia was held.
It was attended by the governors of the Altai Territory, the Vologda and Kaluga regions, the Head of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, deputy governors of the Nizhny Novgorod and Chelyabinsk regions, the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council, senior officials of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, federal executive authorities.
The issues of development of international relations of Russian regions in the sphere of culture were considered.
During the discussion, the participants noted the growing role of cultural and humanitarian instruments for ensuring the country’s foreign policy interests, forming its objective image abroad. It was emphasized that the constituent entities of the Federation are making an ever more significant contribution to the promotion of the rich palette of the original culture of the peoples of Russia in the international arena.
The members of the Council analyzed the state of affairs and tasks for the development of intercultural dialogue between regions with foreign partners. The need for a more coordinated use of horizontal ties between regions and municipalities, an increase in the efficiency of cultural exchanges, especially in the field of cross-border cooperation, was emphasized. The participants also came to the conclusion that cultural diplomacy should rely on modern information resources and use the latest digital technologies. Sergey Lavrov stressed the importance of the initiatives of the subjects of the Federation in the field of cultural diplomacy.
The information “On the results of the Forum of the heads of regions of the SCO member states” was heard.
The Council concluded the meeting with the adoption of detailed recommendations.
