Moscow central diameters (MCD) is a key area of ​​urban transport development, said Sergei Sobyanin in an interview with RIA Novosti. The surface metro, which connects the entire metropolitan area into a single junction, makes it possible to bring passenger service to a new quality level.

“Naturally, we will continue to build the metro, and we will continue to introduce new diameters: the third, fourth, fifth,” the Moscow Mayor said.

According to him, the cost of building the MCD, the Moscow transport hub last year exceeded 100 billion rubles.

“This year, too, there will be more than 100 billion. Giant projects. We just hardly see them, because they are not being built in the middle of the street, but within the framework of transport railway corridors. Tunnels, bridges, new trunk lines, new platforms, arrangement of engineering networks, ”added the Mayor of Moscow.

Speaking about the development of the Moscow metro, Sergei Sobyanin recalled that the lines of the Moscow metro had long gone beyond the capital.

“We are building many metro lines with an exit outside the Moscow Ring Road, and these lines are used by residents of the Moscow region. The metro has come to Nekrasovka, there is Lyubertsy nearby, we are building Rublevo-Arkhangelskoye – there is also a huge enclave, we went to Kotelniki. But the most important direction is the surface metro, which I spoke about – the Moscow Central Diameters. Because it is virtually impossible to dig a metro over such distances, ”the Moscow Mayor said.

The development of the surface metro includes an important area for work – the construction and reconstruction of railway stations.

New stopping points are replacing the classic suburban platforms with small rain canopies and benches for passengers. In fact, these are full-fledged city stations. Tens of thousands of people use them every day.

“If you look at the platforms that we are reconstructing on the railway, they are quite comparable in appearance and comfort to any European railway station or our regional railway station. Escalators, elevators, cash desks, toilets, cafes, transitions to other types of public transport. We have built dozens of such stations and continue to equip and build them, ”said Sergei Sobyanin.

Movement along the Moscow Central Diameters was launched exactly two years ago, and during this time they have become in demand among residents of the capital and the Moscow region. They are chosen not only for movement between the region and the city, but also for trips within Moscow, using them as an alternative to other public and private transport.

The total length of MCD-1 and MCD-2 is 132 kilometers. Passengers can make transfers at metro stations, the Moscow Central Circle, as well as on the radial lines of the railway. By 2024, the number of stations on two diameters should increase to 66, and the number of transfer points – to 27.

Today designed and built three more diameters: MCD-3 “Leningradsko-Kazansky” (from Zelenograd to Ramenskoye), MCD-4 “Kievsko-Gorkovsky” (from Aprelevka to Zheleznodorozhny) and MCD-5 “Yaroslavsko-Paveletsky” (from Pushkin to Domodedov).
