The emergency parties of the small artillery ship (IAC) Volgodonsk of the Caspian Flotilla (CFL) ensured the survivability of the ship as part of the exercise at the modern training complex (UTK) Caspiy.

According to the concept of the exercise, the ship received a hole below the waterline, as a result of which the seawater began to flow into the compartment. Rescue teams repaired the holes in the ship’s hull by installing a training plaster, and then pumped out the incoming water from the compartments using a special sump pump.

Also, the sailors worked on the UTK simulators the tasks of localizing and extinguishing a fire in the ship’s compartments, and improved their skills in using fire extinguishing equipment. The servicemen had to equip themselves in a firefighting suit, seal the burning compartment, stop the spread of fire and eliminate the fires.

The emergency crews of the crews of ships and vessels of the KFL, ensuring their survivability, include diving specialists. They were also trained to survey the ship’s hull and organize underwater technical work at shallow depths. In the UTK pool, divers performed dives using SVU-3 equipment, which allows them to descend to a depth of 60 m.

Damage control exercises are an obligatory element in the training of crews of KFl ships. Trainings are carried out on ships, as well as on special training complexes, where sailors perform tasks in conditions that are as close as possible to combat ones.

In total, about 100 sailors of the flotilla were involved in a practical exercise on the fight for the survivability of the ship.
