The ceremonial meeting of the servicemen of the combined arms formation of the Central Military District (CVD), who won the first and prize places of the World Wrestling Championship in Iran as part of the national team of the Russian Armed Forces, was held today at the Tolmachevo airport in Novosibirsk.
The winners and prize-winners of the World Championship were met by representatives of the command of the Central Military District, military personnel, a departmental orchestra, representatives of sports organizations, journalists, relatives and friends.
The 35th World Military Wrestling Championship was held in Tehran from 21 to 26 November. Freestyle wrestlers and Greco-Roman wrestlers took part in the competition – a total of 149 athletes from 22 countries of the world.
Servicemen of the Central Military District won 8 medals, of which 3 are gold, 4 are silver and 1 is bronze.
The classic wrestlers have won three awards. In the weight category of 61 kg, Nachyn Mongush became the world champion in freestyle wrestling, Nachyn Kuular in the weight category of 70 kg and Erik Dzhioev in the weight category of 97 kg became silver medalists.
Shamil Ozhaev became the world champion among military personnel in Greco-Roman wrestling in the weight category up to 82 kg. Another gold medal was won by Alexander Golovin, winning the competition in the weight category up to 97 kg.
The silver medalists were Stanislav Zaitsev in the weight category up to 72 kg and Sergey Stepanov in the weight category up to 77 kg, and Viktor Vedernikov won the bronze medal of the World Championship among military personnel.
In the final team standings of the 35th World Championship of the International Council of Military Sports (CISM) in wrestling, servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces team became the best.
