Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko took part in the plenary session of the first all-Russian seminar-meeting “Russian Cossacks”. The organizer was the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs.
Dmitry Chernyshenko greeted the participants of the meeting, expressing his confidence that the event will become an important annual platform uniting authorities and public organizations to discuss key issues of state policy towards Russian Cossacks.
“Today, more than 2.6 thousand Cossack societies have been created in Russia, the total number of which is almost 170 thousand people, and the number of representatives of military Cossack societies exceeds 125 thousand people. Traditionally, the activities of the Cossacks are aimed at protecting state interests, ”said Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The Deputy Prime Minister also reported on the work done to form a policy towards the Cossacks. In 2021, a new Strategy of State Policy with regard to the Russian Cossacks for 2021–2030 began to operate, the main goals of which are the consolidation of the Russian Cossacks, the preservation and development of spiritual heritage and culture, as well as involvement in public service. The adopted strategy is referred to the documents of strategic planning in the field of national security.
“The government policy strategy for 2021–2030 approved by the President sets us the task of supporting the Russian Cossacks. It is necessary to preserve and develop culture, to promote interaction between Cossack societies and associations, to support socio-economic development and international cooperation. The government has taken all the necessary measures to implement these tasks, and has approved a “road map” that includes 101 events. The amount of subsidies allocated by the Government for a three-year period from 2020 to 2022 to support the Cossack society is about 216 million rubles. We also recommended that all regions increase the efficiency of interaction with the All-Russian Cossack Society and promote its activities for the good of the country, ”Dmitry Chernyshenko stressed.
