The honor guard of the branches of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation marks the 65th anniversary of its formation. Structurally, the unit is part of the 154th separate commandant Preobrazhensky regiment of the Western Military District (ZVO).

The honor guard was formed on November 29, 1956, and in 1979 became part of the commandant regiment. The guard of honor conducts rituals of meeting and seeing off the heads of foreign states and military departments, ceremony of laying wreaths at the graves of soldiers who died in the battles for the freedom and independence of the Fatherland. In addition, he performs rituals for paying military honors at the opening of monuments, memorials and burials, and also participates in the military-patriotic education of young people.

The honor guard represents the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on foreign trips. In recent years, servicemen have visited more than three dozen states in Asia, Europe and America.

During its existence, the Guard of Honor held more than 312 thousand ceremonies, including the meeting of the world’s first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, the opening of memorial complexes at the Kremlin wall and on Poklonnaya Hill, participation in the parade of troops on Red Square, the ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Moscow and Sochi and other events.
