For reference:

The historical path of the formation begins in 1985, when a separate air assault battalion was formed on the basis of one of the military units of the northern group of forces in the city of Bialogard of the Polish People’s Republic, which was later reorganized into a separate air assault brigade.

In November 1986, the 83rd separate airborne assault brigade was formed.

The 83rd brigade was formed by its commander, Colonel V.I. Borodavkin, Chief of Staff Major A.I. Tarasenko and the head of the political department, Lieutenant Colonel V.I. Serafimovich.

In 1990, the brigade was relocated to the city of Ussuriysk, Primorsky Territory.

In 2015, by decree of the President of Russia, for the heroism and courage, perseverance and courage shown by the personnel of the brigade in the hostilities to defend the Fatherland, the 83rd separate airborne assault brigade was given the honorary name “Guards”. Today she is one of the best in the Airborne Forces of our country and follows the motto “Honor is more valuable than life!”
