Deputy Prime Ministers Yuri Borisov and Dmitry Chernyshenko held a meeting of the Council for the Development of the National Center for Physics and Mathematics (NCFM).

The meeting was attended by the President of the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute” Mikhail Kovalchuk, General Director of the State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom” Alexei Likhachev, Rector of Moscow State University. MV Lomonosov, Victor Sadovnichy, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Sergeev, as well as representatives of scientific organizations and universities.

The participants discussed the status of the project, its tasks and main stages of implementation, as well as the interaction of the National Center with Moscow State University and the Russian Academy of Sciences.

“Traditionally, it is the Russian physics and mathematics school that is a kind of stronghold in the development of the scientific, technological, engineering and design potential of our country – in all, without exception, promising topics. The talent pool of highly qualified physicists and mathematicians deservedly and rightfully constitutes the intellectual elite of Russian society. The government supports the development of the center aimed at ensuring the country’s technological sovereignty, its current and prospective socio-economic development, ”said Yuri Borisov.

“The primary task of the center will be to develop the human resources of the national science using the existing capabilities of the experimental base of the nuclear weapons complex of our country. We expect that as part of its activities, pilot projects will be organized to create digital twins of scientific installations, and the possibility of remote control of research experiments will be provided. This must be implemented by ensuring the security and observance of the interests of the Russian Federation. One of the key areas of the center’s work will also be to facilitate the transfer of high-tech technologies from the military-industrial complex to the civilian sphere, ”stressed Dmitry Chernyshenko.

As a result of the meeting, the participants approved the regulation on the scientific and technical council of the center and its composition, as well as a “road map” for the development of the NCFM. Rosatom was instructed to organize, as soon as possible, the consideration of the scientific program and the development program of the center at a meeting of the Scientific and Technical Council with the aim of approving it by the end of 2021.

The meeting also discussed the development of the branch of the Moscow State University. MV Lomonosov in Sarov. Among the priority areas is the training of highly qualified and competitive personnel in the field of physics and mathematics, capable of forming an adequate response to modern technological challenges.
