Today in the Military Historical Library of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation opened the exhibition “Marshals of Victory”, dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the birth of the famous Russian commanders – Marshals of the Soviet Union Georgy Zhukov and Konstantin Rokossovsky. They were destined to play a special role in the fate of our country and people in the most dangerous and difficult period of history.

The exposition presents about 30 rare books from the library fund, concerning the life of G.K. Zhukov, and about 20 publications describing the difficult fate of K.K. Rokossovsky. Among the works on this topic stored in the Military Historical Library of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces, a special place is occupied by the publication “Reminiscences and Reflections” with an original autograph of Zhukov from the collection of Colonel-General V.M. Ryabikov, transferred to the library in 2004. his son. No less significant are the materials of the military periodicals during the Great Patriotic War, as well as modern scientific research devoted to combat operations, which were headed by the marshals of Victory.

The exhibition presents maps and diagrams prepared by the USSR Ministry of Defense in the 1950s on the basis of captured German documents, as well as an original relief map of the combat area near Shlisselburg in 1942.

It is worth noting that the life paths of the marshals are surprisingly similar. Both are participants in the First World War. Having shown soldier’s valor, they received their first military awards. The leadership gift of both was fully revealed during the Great Patriotic War. In June 1945, Konstantin Rokossovsky commanded the Victory Parade, and Georgy Zhukov hosted it. The paths of the two commanders crossed many times, but during the war, their relationship was strained. The very approach to the conduct of the war was different for the two commanders. But at the decisive moments, both showed their best qualities, and each in his own way made an invaluable contribution to the Victory.
