Servicemen of the regional military police department of the Central Military District (CVD) took part in the creation of a historical work on the formation and development of the prototype of modern military commandant’s offices in the Russian army, which were formed in the Urals, in the regions of Siberia and the Volga region in the period from the 18th to the 20th century. Colonel Konstantin Smirnov, head of the regional military police department for the Central Military District, told reporters about this.
“In preparation for the celebrations dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the creation of the military police of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the personnel of the department during this year have done a tremendous job of collecting and summarizing archival materials telling about the formation and development of the prototype of the modern military police – the military the commandant’s office was in the Russian army from the 18th to the 20th century within the responsibility of the Central Military District, ”said Colonel Konstantin Smirnov.
He noted that the geography of work with archival documents covered six regions of Russia: Omsk, Novosibirsk, Samara, Sverdlovsk, Orenburg regions, as well as the Republic of Bashkortostan.
“The collected materials about the military commandant’s offices of the Omsk, Orenburg, Buzuluk fortresses that appeared in the early 18th century, the Samara fortified area, the creation of the first garrison guardhouses in the Volga region and the Urals, built in the 19th century, will become an integral part of the historical work“ Military police: history and modernity “, which will soon be published by the Main Directorate of the Military Police of the Armed Forces”, – said Konstantin Smirnov.
The materials of the work are structurally divided into four parts. The first tells about the initial stage of the formation of military units endowed with police functions from the reign of Emperors Peter I to Nicholas II. The second part is devoted to the periods of civil confrontation 1917-1922. and the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. The third and fourth parts tell about the military commandant’s offices of the Soviet army and the modern Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
