Today, December 3, a commemorative ceremony dedicated to the Day of the Unknown Soldier took place in Ivanovo.

Flowers to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the memorial to the Heroes of the Front and Rear in the regional center were laid by paratroopers of the Ivanovo Guards Airborne Force, representatives of the Ivanovo Region administration, veterans and pupils of military-patriotic clubs.

On May 9, 2014, the ceremony of reburial of the remains of an unknown soldier, a native of the Ivanovo region, who died during the Great Patriotic War, took place at the memorial. About the soldier who is buried here, at the monument to the Heroes of the Front and Rear, it is only known that he fought as part of the 235th Infantry Division formed in Ivanovo and died near Pskov in 1941, during the defense of the city.

In the regional center, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, together with the monument to the Heroes of the front and rear, forms a single memorial complex dedicated to the contribution of the Ivanovo people to the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. In those days, more than 400 thousand went to the front to mobilize and volunteer. Every fourth inhabitant of the Ivanovo region did not return from the battlefield.

Day of the Unknown Soldier is celebrated annually in Russia on December 3. It was on this day in 1966, to mark the 25th anniversary of the defeat of German troops near Moscow, the ashes of an unknown soldier were transferred from a mass grave on the 41st kilometer of Leningradskoye Highway and solemnly buried in the Alexander Garden near the Kremlin walls in Moscow.

In November 2014, by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation, in order to perpetuate the memory, military valor and immortal feat of Russian and Soviet soldiers who died in hostilities on the territory of our country or abroad, whose names remained unknown, a memorable date was established – the Day of the Unknown Soldier.
