The main instrument for implementing the state policy of the Russian Federation and protecting its national interests in the Arctic is the Northern Fleet. This was stated by the Commander of the Northern Fleet, Admiral Alexander Moiseev, within the framework of the strategic session “Security Architecture of the Arctic Region: Ahead of the Challenges of Time” of the XI International Forum “Arctic: Present and Future”.
Today, the main areas of activity of the Northern Fleet are the protection of the country’s sovereignty in the Arctic zone, the integrity and inviolability of its Arctic territories, the prevention of military conflicts, the maintenance of the forces and troops of the fleet at a level that guarantees the infliction of unacceptable damage to the aggressor in any conditions of the situation.
As part of ensuring the military security of the Russian Federation in the Arctic, the Northern Fleet on a regular basis carries out a set of measures aimed at preventing the use of military force against Russia. In particular, the combat capabilities of the groupings of troops and forces of the Northern Fleet are increasing, the system of integrated control over the air, surface and underwater situation is being improved, and objects of military infrastructure are being created and modernized, ensuring the life of the forces and troops of the fleet.
“As part of the implementation of measures aimed at preventing the use of military force against the Russian Federation, the Northern Fleet, groupings of forces (troops) are in a high degree of combat readiness, are able to provide a favorable operational regime and perform the entire range of tasks to counter military dangers and threats in the Arctic. region. Including in the water area of the Northern Sea Route ”, – said Admiral Alexander Moiseev, speaking to the participants of the session.
