More than 500 tank crews of formations and military units of the Southern Military District (YuVO) conducted live firing during the first week of the winter training period.

The combat firing exercises were carried out by tankers from the guns of modern T-72B3 and T-90A tanks using an inset barrel of 14.5 mm caliber, which allows to preserve the resource of the tank’s armament, as well as standard shells. Also, firing was carried out from a large-caliber anti-aircraft machine gun. The crews improved their skills in hitting targets imitating a moving tank, anti-tank grenade launcher crew and recoilless artillery gun at distances from 300 to 2000 m.

The tank crews were trained in various landscapes of the desert and mountainous-wooded areas of the training grounds deployed in the Volgograd and Rostov regions, Adygea, Dagestan, Ingushetia, North Ossetia, Karachay-Cherkessia and Crimea, as well as at the military bases of the Southern Military District in Abkhazia, Armenia and South Ossetia.

The firing was carried out in conjunction with the crews of unmanned aircraft, which performed target designation and fire correction.

In addition, in the classroom in the field, driver mechanics performed exercises for driving tanks over rough terrain with overcoming natural obstacles, including anti-tank ditches and obstacles.

The plan for the combat training of tank crews provides for the study of the battle tactics of tank subunits in the offensive and defense in the daytime and at night.

Combat coordination of crews, crews and detachments of formations and military units will continue in the troops of the Southern Military District until February 2022.
