In a separate Kirkenes Red Banner Marine Corps Brigade of the Northern Fleet, a unit championship in army hand-to-hand combat was held. The competition became a qualifying stage before the next army corps and navy championships, to which the best fighters from Sputnik will go.

12 teams from various divisions of the brigade took part in hand-to-hand combat1. Martial arts and power sports are very popular among “black berets”, so fighters of seven weight categories came out to test themselves on the tatami. In total, about 60 people took part in the fights.

The awarding ceremony took place immediately after the end of the competition. Seven champions and 14 medalists of each weight category received medals. The best teams were awarded with cups and certificates.

On the last weekend of 2021, the Marine Corps Brigade will host the traditional hand-to-hand fighting championship named after Hero of Russia Sergeant Vladimir Tatashvili, who died in 2000 during the counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus.
