Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko chaired a meeting of the organizing committee for the preparation and holding of the XXXII World Summer Universiade 2023 in Yekaterinburg.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Sports of Russia Oleg Matytsin, representatives of the Presidential Administration of Russia, Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Evgeny Kuyvashev, Director General of the autonomous non-profit organization “Universiade-2023” Alexander Chernov, members of the organizing committee – heads and representatives of federal and regional executive bodies and departments, public organizations and companies involved in the preparation of the Games.

The participants discussed the status of construction and reconstruction of sports facilities where the competitions will be held, as well as the organization of test competitions, training and education of volunteers and ensuring security at the Games.

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of the high level of organization of the World Summer Universiade in Yekaterinburg.

“The preparation for the Universiade is under the control of the President and the Government. A working trip was carried out with the participation of the Aide to the President of the Russian Federation Igor Levitin, which resulted in a number of remarks and deviations in terms. The region has all the necessary resources, we expect that the delays in the construction schedule will be promptly eliminated. The team has made serious progress in all areas of training, this is noted by colleagues from FISU following the results of inspection visits. It is planned to attract 11 thousand volunteers to work at the Universiade in Yekaterinburg. I am sure that they will help organize a large-scale student sports festival in Russia, ”said Dmitry Chernyshenko.

The Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region promised to complete the construction and reconstruction of facilities on time.

Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin in his report spoke about the implementation of the Universiade preparation program.

“The Russian Ministry of Sports, together with the Government of the Sverdlovsk Region, interested executive authorities and the Executive Directorate of the Universiade, carry out regular work in many areas. The joint work of all organizers is positively assessed by the representatives of the International University Sports Federation. Key programs and concepts have been prepared and approved, on the basis of which the infrastructure of facilities and the city is being prepared. Special attention is paid to the plan of anti-epidemiological measures – it is important that all foreign athletes and fans can freely enter the territory of the Russian Federation, ”added Oleg Matytsin.

Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Yevgeny Kuyvashev spoke about the construction and modernization of urban infrastructure.

“The government of the Sverdlovsk region has approved the entire legal framework. Programs of transport and medical support have been developed, and the issue of placing ticket centers is being implemented. The Universiade Village is being built, nine new sports facilities are under construction, the infrastructure of the city facilities involved in the Universiade is being modernized. Based on the results of the inspection visits, a number of comments and suggestions were identified – all of them were taken into account, monitoring of construction and financial issues was strengthened. I confirm that all objects will be commissioned on time, ”said Yevgeny Kuyvashev.

Alexander Chernov, General Director of ANO Universiade-2023, spoke about the upcoming plans for the organization’s operational activities, including attracting and training volunteers.

“At the meeting of the organizing committee, the training and education program for volunteers was approved. We attract not only local volunteers, but also expect about 3800 nonresident and 200 foreign volunteers. Registration for participation in the volunteer program is already open. Submission of applications is possible until January 2023. After that, the process of testing and interviewing candidates starts. The selection of volunteers will be carried out in 35 areas – from sports and services for delegations to the organization of spectator streams and knowledge management, ”said Alexander Chernov.

Dmitry Chernyshenko also added that 22 test competitions in 18 sports are planned in Yekaterinburg in 2022–2023 to check the infrastructure of sports facilities. Three competitions will have international status – the Volleyball World Championship in August 2022, the European Tennis International Tournament in June 2023, and the FISU World Cup among university teams in combat sports in September 2022, where six types will be tested at once. sports.

The members of the organizing committee were also presented with the medals of the Games. Their edges symbolize the versatility of sports and are decorated with the symbolic colors of the five continents of the planet. The sketches of the awards were approved by FISU, the Ministry of Sports of Russia, and the government of the Sverdlovsk region.

The Games of the XXXII World Summer Universiade will be held from 7 to 19 August 2023 in Yekaterinburg. The sports program includes competitions in 18 sports. In 12 days, 246 sets of medals will be drawn. The projected number of participants will be about 10,500 people, more than 550,000 guests and spectators are expected.

For the first time in the history of the student games, an artistic program of the Games will be organized – this decision was made at the FISU General Assembly in Turin in November 2019. 40 objects will be involved in the Universiade, including three objects of the artistic program.
