Citizens will be able to learn about the state of the environment in their region and beyond from open sources. The rules for posting such information within the framework of the federal law adopted in March 2021 were approved by the Government.

According to the new regulations, federal, regional and local authorities must publish key information about the state of the environment, including information about the quality of atmospheric air, soil, water and forest resources, about harmful emissions and discharges, the level of background radiation on their official websites or bring it to the people. using state and municipal information systems (in the latter case, the official website should have a link to the resource where the information is posted).

The rules approved by the Government stipulate that environmental data are publicly available and provided free of charge.

The list of open information contains 82 positions. So, it provides that publicly available for citizens, business, ecologists and experts, among other things, there should be information about objects that have a negative impact on the environment, waste storages and landfills with an indication of the organizations operating them, information about the quality of drinking water, pollution of natural objects. pesticides, as well as operational data on changes in the radiation situation, forest fires, threats of hazardous hydrometeorological phenomena, reviews of the development of spring floods.

In addition, the list includes reports on monitoring the state of environmental pollution, reports on the specifics of climate change in Russia, comprehensive plans of measures to reduce polluting emissions, reports on the state of the ozone layer and monthly updated data on the total ozone content.

For each item, the frequency of updating the information and the department responsible for posting the information is indicated.
