Specialists of the search and rescue group of the Central Military District (CVO) carried out aerial and ground reconnaissance of the main and reserve landing areas of the descent vehicle of the Soyuz MS-20 manned spacecraft in the Republic of Kazakhstan on Mi-8 helicopters.

The reconnaissance of the landing areas of the descent vehicle was carried out on Mi-8 CVO helicopters. The crews and two search and rescue teams took off from Karaganda. The specialists analyzed the characteristics of the terrain of the main and alternate landing areas. To determine the routes for the operational arrival of ground equipment, personnel of the search and rescue group and to predict the conditions for the operation to evacuate cosmonauts, the specialists studied the landing areas for the presence of holes, ditches, equipment and artificial structures, and determined the thickness and density of the snow cover.

In organizing the search and rescue support for the landing of the descent vehicle of the Soyuz MS-20 spacecraft, about 200 rescue specialists are involved, an aviation group: 12 Mi-8 helicopters, two An-12 aircraft and one An-26 aircraft; more than 20 units of ground vehicles, including six modernized search and recovery vehicles FEM-1 and FEM-2 “Blue Bird”.

The landing of the descent vehicle of the Soyuz MS-20 manned spacecraft is scheduled for December 20. Roscosmos cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin and space flight participants – President of the Start Today corporation Yusaku Maezawa and his personal assistant Yozo Hirano will return to Earth.
