Snow stations with an automatic snow metering system have started operating in Moscow. Their readiness for work was checked by inspectors. Since 2019, the points have been equipped with laser measuring devices, which automatically determine and take into account the actual volume of incoming snow.

“Thanks to the automatic snow metering system at snow-drifting stations, it was possible to reduce the costs of disposing of each cubic meter of snow mass by 30 percent and to make the transition to digital reporting. From 2022, the city will completely switch to electronic interaction between the participants in the process of removing and disposing of snow. This will optimize the load on each snowboarding station and increase their throughput by automatically redirecting dump trucks to more free points, “said the Minister of the Moscow Government, head of the Main Control Department of the capital.

The use of several interconnected artificial intelligence technologies allows to achieve high accuracy in determining the volume of snow, noted in Department of Information Technologies of the city of Moscow… In November 2021, the project was noted at the international level: the system for automated accounting of snow volumes at snow-alloying points entered IoT Global Awards shortlist.

“The system for automatic measurement of snow volume is one of the significant Moscow projects using artificial intelligence technologies and the Internet of things. The city uses a combination of several different solutions to achieve higher accuracy. For example, video analytics makes it possible to automatically recognize the license plate of a vehicle and record its arrival at a snow-melting station. And three-dimensional laser scanning of the body and the construction of its isometric allows you to calculate the volume of the brought snow with high accuracy. All measurement data are automatically transferred to city information systems, “said the Minister of the Moscow Government, head of the Information Technology Department.

The principle of operation of snow-alloying stations is quite simple: trucks dump snow into a collection point, where it is crushed with the help of crushers. Then the snow crumbs enter the melting chamber, where, upon contact with warm water, the snow begins to melt quickly.

The readiness of the snow-rafting stations for work was checked by the employees of the road inspection of the Association of administrative and technical inspections of the capital. They inspected 49 facilities for compliance with sanitary and technical requirements: they inspected access roads, checked the presence of a scheme for the movement of trucks, the state of markings, entrance gates and fences. During the inspection, the inspectors of the association recorded 26 violations, which were promptly eliminated.

Since the beginning of December in Moscow, removed and disposed of more than one million cubic meters of snow… The total capacity of snow-rafting stations in the capital makes it possible to utilize about 650 thousand cubic meters of snow per day.
