In the Amur Region, servicemen of the railway formations of the Eastern Military District (VVO) on the reconstruction site of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) are working on the excavation of the roadbed, despite a significant drop in air temperature in the construction area. At the moment, the total volume of excavated rocky soil is over 130 thousand cubic meters.

The work is being carried out according to the schedule, in some areas ahead of schedule. The military personnel perform excavation slope grading with the additional involvement of heavy equipment, such as heavy bulldozers equipped with openers, which blast the soil with their “penetration”, after which it is excavated by excavators.

At the same time, military railway workers carry out large-scale preparation of rocky soil in quarries to speed up the construction of the embankment.

On the section from Ulak station to Verkhnezeysk station, where work is carried out by the VVO personnel, soils of different properties and strength characteristics abound.

In connection with this feature, the construction of an embankment of a roadbed requires special care and strict adherence to the adopted design decisions for the construction of embankments on permafrost.

Also, since the beginning of the reconstruction of the BAM on the VVO section, more than 50 kilometers of roadside highways have been equipped, for which more than 155 cubic meters of rocky soil have been used.

In connection with the increase in traffic density, travel speeds, weights and train lengths, it becomes necessary to improve the design of the railway track.

One of the ways to ensure its reliable operation is the use of geosynthetic materials. Therefore, servicemen in their work will use modern technologies using geotextiles in the construction of railway tracks and new modern materials for rail and sleepers.

As previously reported, in April, the Russian Ministry of Defense began construction of the second BAM track on the 340 km section from Ulak to Fevralsk.

The railway brigades of the Eastern and Central military districts were involved in the work, which conscientiously and efficiently carry out construction according to their regular designation, improve their professional skills while fulfilling the state task of developing the Eastern range of railways.

BAM is a railway in Eastern Siberia and the Far East, the second main (along with the Trans-Siberian Railway) railway exit of Russia to the Pacific Ocean, connects Taishet and Sovetskaya Gavan. The total length is 4.3 thousand kilometers. BAM and Transsib are working at their capacity, they are being modernized, in which the Railway Troops are taking an active part.
